Travelwise
We are a Travelwise school.
Travelwise is an innovative programme to make school travel safer, healthier and more fun.
The programme works with schools to:
encourage and increase use of active travel modes and public transport
provide safer facilities for all road users
reduce congestion around schools
With Travelwise, schools create individualised Safe School Travel Plans with meaningful visions and practical actions to create a safer and less congested environment outside the school.
Senior school students can get involved in the Travelwise programme working with Auckland Transport and Police to ward a safer travel environment for Sandspit Road School.
Trees for Survival
Trees for Survival is an environmental education programme which involves young people growing and planting native trees to restore natural habitats by helping landowners revegetate erosion prone land, improve stream flow and water quality and increase biodiversity.
The Trees for Survival programme creates community partnerships by engaging schools, their community, local businesses and Councils all working together to restore our natural heritage.
Your child can be involved in nurturing the seedlings grown at school and then participating in planting days in the greater Waiuku area.
Sandspit's Got Talent!
Each year Sandspit Road School hosts a talent quest that gives students across all levels opportunities to audition and perform across a wide range of disciplines. This event is a showcase of dance, singing, musical recital, comedy, magic and more!
Both junior and senior events are held, with the overall senior winner awarded the Delwyn Virtue trophy.
Students can perform as soloists or as part of a group of like minded friends.
Sandspit's Got Talent is a must see on our annual calendar. Parents are welcome to come along and enjoy the shows.
Leadership
We provide a pathway for young leaders with Head boy and Head girl roles appointed annually along with house leaders.
