Room 1 Wintery Greetings from cosy Room 1! Our class number has grown to 12 this term and we are really enjoying the interaction and development with such a good class size. Our inquiry topic for this term is 'One World Many Faces' and we have introuced the concept by looking at 'What's it like being a Kiwi kid?'. Hence the focus on birthday parties and other celebrations, starting school, what keeps us healthy and happy, family and friends. Now we are moving on to a global aspect and eventually to focus on tribal Africa and the life of children in a 3rd world environment. We are going to be learning about 'Arohanui', a small orphanage for AIDS orphans which was set up by a New Zealand teacher in Tanzania. Also we are looking at school-wide fundraising ideas to help with the running costs, as Arohanui is funded entirely by goodwill. If you have magazines suitable for cutting up and coloured plastic bags like Warehouse, Briscoes ... we would be able to make good use of them for art activities. Also it is a good idea to send to school an old large t-shirt or similar cover-up for art activities. The aim is to have some photos of our wonderful class activities, but the technical difficulty I have not yet overcome is how to reduce them to fit this page. Watch this space.... |
