Room 3
Welcome To Room 3 With Miss Marriner
Just a few reminders about routines and how things work in year 3!
|
Welcome to Room 3! This is an information booklet to assist families with classroom routines and expectations. I hope you find it useful.
Book Bag
Every child in the class must have a book bag. This bag is used to carry school notices, your child’s work that is ready to be taken home, library books, homework book, poetry book and a notebook. Your child must have their book bag at school everyday. This is a very important routine to establish. Your child will not be able to bring home school readers, library books etc. if they do not have their book bag.
Notebook
Your child will have a notebook in their book bag which is used for communication purposes and as a reading log. If you have any concerns, queries or notices for me please write them in the back of the reading notebook and these will be checked daily. I will also write any messages for you in this notebook.
Homework Routines
Homework reading expectations:
The children will….
- Have a reader in the book bag Monday to Thursday.
- Have their poetry book on Friday with a new poem in it to share over the weekend. These must be returned by Monday.
|
- Have new library books to read.
Please be aware that occasionally the children will not come home with a book or they may have a journal to read for the week or be allowed to have a choice of books from home or the library.
Homework Books
Every Monday your child will bring home their homework book in their book bag. In the homework book you will find;
· A small list of spelling words to be learned. The children will be tested on these words at the end of the week.
· A homework sheet.
The homework tasks are due every Friday. This will allow me time to mark the books over the weekend ready for the next week’s tasks. I know after school commitments can occur regularly for many children and homework tasks can often be a struggle to complete. If this is the case PLEASE leave a message in your child’s notebook. I try and set tasks that the children are able to complete reasonably independently.
Library Day
We visit the school library every week. Please ensure your child brings back their old library books every week, to ensure a new one can be issued. The children are allowed two books per visit.

Year 3 Students
Your child is now in the middle syndicate of the school. This means they are responsible for themselves and all of their property. They will need to look after their own gear and ensure they are ready for school everyday with the correct books and equipment as this minimises the time spent off task.
Classroom Release Time
I will be in the classroom most of the time, However there will be some days that I will be away for my release time. These days will vary and during this time Alyson Caines will be coming in to release me. We are working collaboratively to make sure the programme is consistent and runs as smoothly as possible through these transitions.
Thinking Chair
In room Three we will have a thinking chair where the child will be sent to write out a thinking plan about the actions they have taken if there are any disturbances after a first initial warning card. If the child goes to the thinking chair the thinking plan will be signed off by the teacher and child and sent home to the parents to discuss what happened. It needs to be signed and returned.
Term 1 Planning
This term we will be focusing on Marine Reserves and this will run throughout the programme. We will be looking at addition and subtraction within this term in maths and focusing on report writing. During reading we will be focusing on the reading strategies. Please feel free to come and view children’s work within the room
